about ice moulds
Why do you use moulds?
Since you can’t harvest blocks of ice out of a river or lake in Sydney, we have to freeze the water into ice one way or another. There are some items that are so popular (such as swans) that we sell hundreds of them, it makes sense to freeze the water into the right shape in the first place rather than carve them by hand.
What are the advantages of moulds?
With a moulded ice sculpture you get consistency, so we can make you a pair of sculptures that are identical. We can also make sculptures that are very detailed, and much larger than you could practically hand-carve in Sydney. We don’t have the ideal conditions here to display intricate sculptures for days on end outdoors.
Can you colour the ice?
Another advantage with moulds is that you can add colour to the ice sculpture. We use food colouring so we have a wide range of colours that we can add to your sculpture.
Where do you get the moulds?
We buy our moulds from the world-renowned ice mould company Icecraft International. Based in Queensland Australia, Icecraft International have built up a reputation as the makers of the best moulds in the business.
Do you sell moulds?
We do not sell moulds, we sell ice sculptures. It may sound easy to just buy a mould and pop it in the freezer, but there is more to it than that. We’re not going to give away all our trade secrets here though
